Abandoned South Dakota: Great Places, Vacant Spaces

DESCRIPTION

They say a picture is worth a thousand words. Nowhere is this more evident than in the heart of rural South Dakota, where entire towns and buildings lie vacant among the desolate plains. The people who once called these places home often left their belongings behind, taking their stories with them. The remaining structures remind us of simpler times, each holding an untold story.

Join Troy Hess, a rural explorer and photographer, as he scours the countryside for these discarded remnants from lost generations. Discover where aging architecture weathers through time before it crumbles into rubble. From featureless farmlands to the majestic Badlands, explore the remains of a lost era as we travel the back roads of this Midwestern state.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR(S)
Troy Hess is a multi-award-winning photographer and editor, based in Rusk County of northwestern Wisconsin. His photos often depict colorful and dramatic imagery. His passion for abandonment photography began with a search for a provocative subject matter to photograph. Residing in one of the poorest counties in the state, he was reluctant to find an obvious choice, as the abandonment in his area was plentiful. Over the past several years, Troy has captured and documented almost all abandonment located in the state of Wisconsin. He has also ventured beyond the state lines to document some of the neglect found within other Midwestern states.
