Born in Hickory, NC, and raised a short drive away in Connelly Springs, Alexa Atkins has lived most of her life in the mountains surrounded by greenery and areas edging into dilapidation. After leaving for school in Houston, TX where she studied film and photography she continued to return each year to capture the beauty of fading design and local housing succumbing to nature. Throughout the unfolding of this project she expanded the area covered and captured more and more of the local abandoned architecture. A selected few prints from this project were exhibited in winter of 2018, for which Atkins was awarded the Conception Arts Award for Excellence.
