Nassau County Through Time

Author(s): Richard R. Panchyk
DESCRIPTION
Nassau County was born at an auspicious and exciting time, on the cusp of a new century and a major transition from a series of quiet farming communities to a hub for industry, a playground for the rich, a training ground for soldiers heading to war, and a cradle for the nascent aviation industry that was to result in the most famous flight in the nation’s history.

Much has changed over time in Nassau County—farms have vanished, new highways have been built, historic buildings and sites have been obliterated, and housing developments and shopping centers of all types and sizes have sprung up.

Yet despite all of this “progress,” there are still glimmers of the county’s storied past scattered throughout the county.

The images in this book capture moments in the fast-paced and ever-evolving history of Nassau County, showing places of great contrast over time as well as celebrating bastions of historic preservation where time stands still.
