Memphis is more than just the Home of the Blues. It’s one of the most important cities in American history. From the Civil War to the Civil Rights Movement, from BBQ to Blues, from the music of Sun Studios and Elvis Presley to today’s hip-hop music and Jookin’ dancing, Memphians are proud of their history and ready to add to their legacy. Memphians are rough, tough, and defiant, but ultimately cool, caring, and determined to preserve their culture as well as create a city for the future.
In this volume, street photographer Adam David explores the character of the city and its people. From the city’s grit to the attempts for urban renewal, the photographs in this volume explore the city in fresh, exciting ways. Memphis is the town where music, community, and the belief in a better tomorrow thrives.
Adam David moved to Memphis because of his fascination with the city’s culture, history, and unique community. His street photography seeks to connect emotionally with humor, pathos, and compassion. His work has extensively captured his native New York, Washington, D.C., Havana, and Istanbul. He continues to live in Memphis, enjoying BBQ and live music as often as possible.
